It can be difficult and frustrating for student-athletes to not be able to suit up. USC has been mostly healthy through training camp and the opening game against Missouri State. There were, however, some significant injuries that occurred during camp and other developments that unfolded against the Bears.
Prince Strachan pulled up and was forced to leave the action following a catch and run during Week 1. He will be unable to play against Georgia Southern.
Caden Chittenden will have to wait a little longer to make his Trojan debut, as he too has been designated as out for the game against the Eagles. Following a highly impressive career at UNLV, most expect him to be the primary placekicker once he is healthy.
During Week 1, Ryon Sayeri took care of the field goal attempts and most extra point tries, while William Weisberg trotted on for two of the extra point attempts. Combined, the two went 10/10 on the point after.
Alex Graham is a freshman who has looked good early on during the Trojan practices. He will, however, be unable to take the field, as the defensive back is going to utilize an additional week to get fully healthy for the rest of the season.
After a good showing in the run game, Bryan Jackson will likely be forced to miss out against Georgia Southern, as the running back is expected to miss the game due to an undisclosed injury. He is officially listed as doubtful.
Positive USC injury news
There have been some positive developments, however.
UCF transfer Chasen Johnson was excluded from the injury report and is expected to see playing time against Georgia Southern. He will be competing in a secondary room that has plenty of talent, certainly, but having someone else to rotate in and out among the defensive backs is something that will be needed throughout the season. His being able to get some actual game time under his belt in coach D'Anton Lynn's system will be beneficial.
Finally, the one most, if not all, USC fans have been waiting for, Jahkeem Stewart, is set to begin what is expected to be a promising and highly productive Trojan career. In terms of talent, Stewart certainly has first-round talent for when he declares for the draft. Until that day comes, USC fans will enjoy watching 'Thanos' displaying his abilities against opposing offensive lines.
