Why USC football fans should be rooting for JT Daniels and Georgia in 2020
USC football fans should be rooting for JT Daniels and Georgia this fall.
Trojan fans don’t have USC football to occupy their Saturdays this fall, so it’s time to find another program to follow on a temporary basis.
But which one to choose?
Wednesday’s shocking news that Georgia quarterback Jamie Newman is reportedly opting out of the coming season may have given USC fans yet another reason to adopt the Bulldogs.
JT Daniels is still worth rooting for despite his USC football transfer.
Newman’s absence clears the way for JT Daniels, the USC football transfer, to take over as Georgia’s starting quarterback.
There shouldn’t be any ill will towards Daniels on behalf of the Trojans. He served as a starter as a true freshman and showed great promise in the 2019 season opener. A season-ending injury proved an unfortunate end for Daniels as an individual, but it introduced USC to Kedon Slovis.

Slovis’ potential was too much for Daniels to overcome in the end. He could hardly be blamed for looking for a better situation.
USC is better off with Slovis at the helm in any case. Now that Daniels looking to forge a new future as a Bulldog and it should be fun to see him grow in that environment.
Georgia would have already been a decent choice for USC fans to be drawn to, as far as SEC teams go.
Unlike with Alabama, there’s no recent history to give Trojan fans a bad taste in their mouth. In fact, USC is 3-0 against the Bulldogs. Those meetings were in 1931, 1933 and 1960, so there’s no bad blood here.
Some Trojans may be tempted to jump on board the Ed Orgeron train with LSU, but the Tigers may not be so fun to follow this year. They’ve been devastated by NFL departures, graduations, transfers and opt outs.

Georgia is a potential contender in the SEC. They have a head coach in Kirby Smart who is on the rise. If you feel compelled to adopt a new team for the time being, you could do worse than Georgia.
