Mater Dei’s Jaylin Davies, who is considering USC football, announced his commitment date.

Could USC football’s recruiting snowball swallow up yet another top prospect? The Trojans will have a shot at another pledge later this month.

On Wednesday, four-star cornerback Jaylin Davies set a commitment date for June 19.

The Mater Dei-product is picking between a Top 4 of USC, Oregon, Ohio State and ASU.

USC football hopes to add Jaylin Davies to recent recruiting run

Davies ranks No. 139 in the 247Sports composite. He is No. 12 among cornerbacks and No. 13 in California.

At 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, Davies has been tagged as a “natural cover corner” by Greg Biggins of 247Sports.

USC’s pursuit of Davies was a no-brainer. As Top 200 prospect out of Mater Dei, he’d fit right in on the Trojan squad, which includes Mater Dei alums like Bru McCoy, Solomon Tuliaupupu and Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Unfortunately, the Trojans would have to pull off quite the upset to land Davies at this point. The 247Sports Crystal Ball hints at ASU or Ohio State grabbing the pledge with the Sun Devils holding a significant edge.

Maybe things can change over the next two weeks.

The Trojans should have decent cornerback depth to work with over the coming years. No one from the unit is slated to graduate after the 2020 season, though Greg Johnson, Olaijah Griffin, Chase Williams and Isaac Taylor-Stuart will all be eligible to leave for the NFL at the conclusion of the campaign. Griffin and Taylor-Stuart may have the incentive to do just that if their pro evaluations come back strong enough.

USC doesn’t have any cornerback commits in the class so far, technically at least. Four-star athlete Calen Bullock could end up in that position, though he projects most likely at safety.

If USC isn’t able to land Davies, they have other plans for the cornerback group. The Trojans are after four-star corner Nathaniel Wiggins from Georgia as well as Loyola CB Ceyair White and John Muir CB Jamier Johnson. Four-star athlete Jaylin Smith from Bishop Alemany, a teammate of recent commits Miller Moss and Saia Mapakaitolo, is also a potential addition.
