USC basketball faces their toughest test of the season on Thursday, taking on No. 1-seed Washington in a do-or-die Pac-12 Tournament game.

One down, three to go. That’s the reality for USC basketball as they get set to battle in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Pac-12 Tournament. Nothing less than the automatic bid that comes from winning the conference tournament will get Andy Enfield’s squad into the NCAA Tournament.

The Trojans blew by Arizona with a second-half surge on Wednesday in the first round, winning 78-65 to keep their postseason hopes alive. Next up are the Washington Huskies, the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the conference’s 2018-19 regular season champion.

More from Reign of Troy

Washington finished their campaign at 24-7, besting USC 75-62 along the way, but they lost the season finale to Oregon, 55-47. They also lost to Pac-12 bottom-dweller Cal at the end of February and were played close by Stanford in the last stretch of the season.

The Huskies have vulnerabilities, but they are still the class of the conference, so USC has its work cut out. Forward Matisse Thybulle was named a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, Washington can count on leading scorer Jaylen Nowell, the sophomore guard who is averaging 16.3 points per game, as well senior guard David Crisp and senior forward Noah Dickerson, both of whom are averaging double-digits.

Nowell and Thybulle were named All-Pac-12 first teamers. Dickerson was voted as an honorable mention.

In order to slay the current king of the conference, USC will need to rely on the scoring power of Bennie Boatwright, who put in a double-double against Arizona with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, all game bests. The Trojans will also look to get more out of Nick Rakocevic, who managed just six points against the Wildcats.

The game will tip off at 12:00 p.m. Pacific. The broadcast on the Pac-12 Network will feature Roxy Bernstein on play-by-play as well as Don MacLean’s color commentary and Jill Savage’s courtside reporting.

As usual, Jordan Moore will be responsible for the local radio broadcast which can be found on 1110AM.
