USC football picked up a the crown jewel of their 2019 recruiting class with the commitment of five-star athlete Bru McCoy at the All-American Bowl.
The centerpiece of the 2019 USC football recruiting class is finally in place.
On Saturday at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, five-star athlete Bru McCoy announced his commitment to the Trojans, picking USC over Texas.
The sky is the limit for the 6-foot-2, 212-pounder out of Mater Dei. He is the No. 7 player in the country, per the 247Sports composite and No. 2 in the state of California. Rated as the top athlete in the class, McCoy could find his college football home on either side of the ball as a wide receiver or a linebacker.

He is the highest rated commit on the board for USC.
Most expect to see McCoy catching passes in cardinal and gold. His size, athleticism and playmaking ability saw him nab 78 catches for 1,428 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2018 at Mater Dei. However, he also showed ability rushing off the edge as a linebacker, tallying five sacks in limited work.
As a pass catcher, he lifts USC’s wide receiver class in 2019 go from good to great. He joins four-stars Drake London and Puka Nacua, along with three-star Munir McClain as reinforcements for a Trojan unit which figures to stay strong in 2019, but will see key departures in the coming years with the impending graduation of Michael Pittman and the shrinking eligibility of Tyler Vaughns and others, who will graduate after 2020.
The Trojans also added five-star wide receiver Kyle Ford earlier in the day at the All-American Bowl.
Coming into the day, the Trojan recruiting class had settled 22nd nationally in the 247Sports team rankings, a particularly low standing for one of the most consistently strong recruiting programs over the last five years. McCoy’s addition, along with Ford’s, will surely boost that ranking, helping Clay Helton and company salvage what has been a challenging recruiting cycle.
