Ronald Jones II and Uchenna Nwosu made their pro debuts while USC’s undrafted free agents looked to impress during NFL rookie minicamps.
The second phase of NFL rookie minicamps finished up this weekend with Ronald Jones II and Uchenna Nwosu taking the field for the first time with their new teams.
Of course, minicamps are a much more stressful period for the dozens of undrafted free agents who are clawing for a roster place. There were four Trojan UDFAs looking to make their case last weekend, including Deontay Burnett, Nico Falah, Josh Fatu and Steven Mitchell.

Here’s at the latest from USC’s newest rookies during rookie minicamps:
Deontay Burnett | Tennessee Titans
Burnett was among the 22 undrafted free agents officially signed by the Titans ahead of their rookie minicamp, and he was not one of the four who were cut by the team following the minicamp. So that’s a start.
He was filmed running and catching passes, which means he is indeed healthy after missing much of the lead up to the draft with a hamstring problem. That’s another hurdle cleared.
Now Burnett just needs to prove himself worthy of a roster spot, which may be within reach as the Titans are in need of a possession receiver.
Nico Falah | Tennessee Titans
Like Burnett, Falah was signed on Friday by the Titans and made it through the weekend without being cut. As an undrafted free agent, he too has a climb to make the roster, but Tennessee is light on centers so there is a chance.
Josh Fatu | Detroit Lions
Fatu was signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent before their rookie camp this weekend and has been slated as one of the favorites to land on the 53-man roster when all is said and done. That’s in part because Detroit’s defensive line was particularly questionable last year and in part because Fatu seems to fit what new head coach Matt Patricia is looking for in a run-stopping nose tackle who can pitch in as a pass rusher.
Ronald Jones II | Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jones II is one of just a few of Tampa Bay’s draft picks who have yet to sign a contract yet, but that didn’t stop him from going out and doing work at the Bucs rookie minicamp.
The big focus for Jones II appears to have been catching passes out of the backfield, which was a skill he had to develop during his time at USC.

Steven Mitchell | LA Rams
The Rams didn’t hold a traditional rookie minicamp so there was less news than normal on Steven Mitchell as he fights for a roster spot in Los Angeles.
He was officially signed by the team shortly after the draft.
Uchenna Nwosu | LA Chargers
Nwosu signed his rookie contract with the Chargers on Friday and then went to work at their rookie minicamp.
The hybrid linebacker-defensive end will be tried out in multiple positions and impressed fellow rookies with his versatility during the opening days of his NFL career.
