Three-star cornerback Trey Davis, out of Washington, announced his commitment to USC football’s 2019 recruiting class on Thursday evening.
In less than a week, USC football has doubled up the 2019 recruiting class, adding a fourth commitment in cornerback Trey Davis.
The three-star cornerback, who picked up an offer from the Trojans on Wednesday, took to Twitter to announce his commitment.
“First off I just wanna start by thanking god for blessing me with the gift to further my education and giving me the opportunity to play this game at a high level. I would also like to thank my family, teammates, trainers, FSP and all my coaches for giving me the tools I need for the next level,” Davis wrote. “After talking with Coach Helton and My Family, I am very proud to announce that I am committing to The University of Southern California.”

Davis won’t be the highest-rated recruit in USC’s 2019 class by any stretch. The cornerback-athlete ranks 1,439th nationally in the 247Sports ratings. While he is the 26th-best prospect coming out of the state of Washington this year, he sits 142nd among cornerbacks in the class.

However, he seems to fit the profile of corners targeted by defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast and defensive backs coach Ronnie Bradford. At 6-foot, 185 pounds, he possesses the size necessary to stand up next to USC’s other corners.
It is possible the Trojans may be bringing Davis in specifically as a nickelback. He played slot corner as a junior for Federal Way this past season.
USC can afford to take a chance on an under-recruited prospect like Davis, whose first Division I offer came from the Trojans, because they have landed so many of the nation’s top corners in recent years. In 2018, five-star Olaijah Griffin was joined by four-stars Isaac Taylor-Stuart and Chase Williams. In 2017, the Trojans also added four-star athlete Greg Johnson while jumping on another three-star project in Je’Quari Godfrey.

Davis is now the fourth commit for the Trojans’ 2019 haul. Three-star inside linebacker Stanley Taufoou made it three on Wednesday, also jumping on an offer almost as soon as it arrived. The two join four-star offensive tackle Jason Rodriguez and three-star wide receiver Munir McClain in the class.
