Linebacker Jordan Iosefa missed USC Football’s Thursday Spring Camp practice while receiver Michael Pittman was eased back into action.

USC Football was missing a key member of the defensive lineup on Thursday, but not with a football injury.

Linebacker Jordan Iosefa didn’t suit up for the Trojans’ eighth practice this spring because he had to undergo a root canal to fix a tooth abscess. The coaches gave him the day off to heal up fully without risking infection.

With Iosefa assisting the coaches, freshman linebacker Kana’i Mauga took first team reps ahead of sophomore Juliano Falaniko. However, Iosefa is likely to return for Saturday’s scrimmage.

USC Football Injury Report:

  • Out for spring: LB Oluwole Betiku (hip), RB Stephen Carr (back), TE Daniel Imatorbhebhe (hip), DL Jacob Lichtenstein (knee), DL Marlon Tuipulotu (back)
  • Out: TE Austin Applebee (undisclosed), OL Jacob Daniel (undisclosed), RB Dominic Davis (dizziness), WR Randal Grimes (groin), CB Je’Quari Godfrey (hamstring), LB Jordan Iosefa (tooth), WR Josh Imatorbhebhe (dizziness)
  • Limited: CB Greg Johnson (shoulder), LB Tayler Katoa (knee), OL Toa Lobendahn (knee), RB Vavae Malepeai (hamstring), WR Michael Pittman (shoulder), S Isaiah Pola-Mao (shoulder)

Wide receiver Michael Pittman, who was not allowed to practice on Tuesday because of a shoulder sprain, saw more action on Thursday. He was able to go through drills with the receivers and caught passes from the quarterbacks. However, during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11, he wore a yellow non-contact jersey to protect him from aggravating the injury.

Receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe was also limited. He went through passing drills without a helmet and did not take part in team segments. He was pulled from Tuesday’s practice with dizziness.

That’s also what ailed running back Dominic Davis on Tuesday, but he sat out Thursday’s action completely.

Cornerback Je’Quari Godfrey, who tweaked his hamstring, and receiver Randal Grimes, who injured his groin, were sidelined as well.

Head coach Clay Helton gave an update on the status of defensive lineman Jacob Lichtenstein on Thursday. The redshirt freshman has a knee injury which will not require surgery but will keep him out for all of Spring Camp.
