Elijah Weaver, the four-star point guard already signed to USC Basketball’s 2018 recruiting class, got an invite from Big Baller Brand to join the JBA.
Lavar Ball’s Junior Basketball Association hasn’t gotten off the ground just yet, but the Big Baller Brand is taking a swing at some of the nation’s biggest recruits.
Among the 80 players approached by Big Baller Brand, per Tipton Edits, is USC Basketball signee Elijah Weaver.
Weaver is a four-star point guard who has signed a national letter of intent to join the Trojans in the fall of 2018.
He told Tipton Edits that he “does not know” if he’ll consider the offer to play in the JBA.
Ball’s plans for the JBA are lofty, offering players a monthly salary of between $3,000 and $10,000 to feature in a dedicated NBA feeder league instead of going to play college basketball for the minimum one-year requirement.
Of course, there’s plenty of skepticism about Ball’s ability to sustain a league undercutting the huge amateur athletics structure of college basketball.
Players who have been offered the chance to join the JBA have also had lukewarm responses, so far at least. Tipton reports that none of the players they’ve spoken to have accepted just yet and “very few are even considering.”

Weaver, however, hasn’t ruled out the possibility. While the odds remain in USC’s favor when it comes to getting the four-star prospect enrolled, if he makes a bold choice to join the JBA it would have a huge impact on the future of Trojan basketball.
Though USC has lost notable commitments from four-star power forward J’Raan Brooks, who also got an invite to the JBA, and four-star small forward Taeshon Cherry, the Trojans 2018 recruiting class is still in excellent shape. Four-star shooting guard Kevin Porter Jr. and Weaver both rank in the Top 40 of players in the 247Sports composite.
Bringing both in should help alleviate major losses expected after this season as the likes of Jordan McLaughlin and Elijah Stewart graduate, while Chimezie Metu and Bennie Boatwright will almost certainly leave for the NFL.

Losing Weaver, however, would mean losing a third Top 80 prospect for the year, further setting back the recruiting work Andy Enfield and company have put in.
