Four-star linebacker Bo Calvert of Oaks Christian is reportedly set to sign with UCLA instead of USC Football when the early signing period opens.

USC linebacker commit Bo Calvert no longer plans to join the Trojans, Eric Sondheimer of the LA Times reported on Monday night.

The four-star Oaks Christian defender will instead sign with UCLA on Wednesday as the early signing period opens. He officially visited the Bruins over the weekend and was offered a scholarship by Chip Kelly, prompting the flip.

Calvert’s apparently de-commitment may signal some good news for USC down the line. The Trojans hosted weakside defensive end prospect and UCLA commit Abdul-Malik McClain this weekend and talk of a flip going the other way has been rumored since.

USC’s linebacker class also includes higher-rated prospects like five-star Palaie Gaoteote and four-star Raymond Scott, both of whom locked in their commitments to the Trojans by shutting down their recruiting process ahead of the early signing day.

That made for a crowded group as the Trojans also pursued McClain and others, putting Calvert’s status with regard to USC on shaky ground.

The situation will certainly be clarified if Calvert puts pen to paper for UCLA on Wednesday.

Calvert is rated No. 243 nationally and No. 31 in the state of California, per the 247Sports composite. He ranks No. 18 among outside linebackers.

The Trojans no figure to approach Wednesday’s signing period with nine commitments in the class following de-commitments from Calvert, three-star receiver Andre Hunt and four-star running back Mychale Salahuddin, who was offset by the commitment of four-star running back Markese Stepp.

Recruits will have the opportunity to sign early national letters of intent from Wednesday through Friday. Anyone who does not sign during this period will have to wait for the normal Signing Day in February.
