The Trojans and Wildcats will both have injured running backs, Stephen Carr and Nick Wilson, back in action. Here’s the injury report ahead of USC vs. Arizona.

USC remains a squad heavily hit by injury. For every return, the Trojans lose another piece to the injury bug.

That’s the case as USC gears up to face Arizona. Defensive lineman Josh Fatu and outside linebacker Porter Gustin both came back to face ASU, but only Fatu made it out unscathed. The Trojans will once again have to cope without Gustin, who was ruled out earlier this week after a setback with his broken toe.

It’s a similar story at running back. Flashy true freshman Stephen Carr practiced all week and is on track to get on the field this weekend after four weeks out with a foot injury. Going the other way, a knee injury suffered against ASU will likely keep redshirt freshman Vavae Malepeai off the field this week.

Malepeai did not have any structural damage, but spent the week of practice working with a trainer.

USC Injury Report:

  • Out for season: DL Kenny Bigelow (retirement), K Michael Brown (knee), CB Greg Johnson (shoulder), LB Tayler Katoa (knee), CB Jonathan Lockett (hip), S Isaiah Pola-Mao (shoulder), OL Viane Talamaivao (pectoral), DL Marlon Tuipulotu (back), WR Keyshawn “Pie” Young (hamstring/redshirt)
  • Out:  OLB Hunter Echols (hip), TE Josh Falo (foot), OLB Porter Gustin (toe), DL Christian Rector (hand), OT Nathan Smith (knee), RB James Toland (shoulder)
  • Doubtful: RB Vavae Malepeai (knee), CB Iman Marshall (knee),
  • Probable: RB Stephen Carr (foot), OL Chuma Edoga (ankle), DL Josh Fatu (concussion), WR Steven Mitchell (shoulder)

Cornerback Iman Marshall was also limited to working with a trainer during practice, with a brace on his knee because of an MCL sprain. He appears unlikely to suit up for the Trojans this weekend with Isaiah Langley slated to take his place for the second week.

USC will also be without second-leading sack getter Christian Rector, whose absence because of surgery on a broken hand will exacerbate the loss of Gustin for the week. Inside linebacker Jordan Iosefa will cover at the predator position.

Freshman tight end Josh Falo will be sidelined as well with a foot injury.

Though right tackle Chuma Edoga and wide receiver Steven Mitchell missed time at practice this week, both are expected to play on Saturday.

Arizona Injury Report:

  • Out for season: OL Bryson Cain (ankle), WR Cam Denson (foot), DB Isaiah Hayes (shoulder), LB Carrington Vaughn (knee), LS Nick Reinhardt (knee)
  • Out: DL Kurtis Brown (concussion), DL Jalen Harris (shoulder)
  • Questionable: DB Scottie Young Jr. (knee)
  • Probable: RB Nick Wilson (ankle), TE Trevor Wood (concussion)

The Wildcats will be without backup defensive tackle Kurtis Brown because of a concussion, but will have a largely healthy lineup at their disposal otherwise.

More from Reign of Troy

Running back Nick Wilson did not play against Washington State but will be back this week and looking to add to his 353 yards rushing this season.

Tight end Trevor Wood, a co-starter at the position, is also set to return from a concussion which held him out last week.

Freshman safety Scottie Young Jr., however, remains in doubt with a knee injury. The issue has kept him out for two weeks and he is listed as questionable on Arizona’s official injury report. Redshirt freshman Jarrius Wallace has stood in for Young during his absence.
