USC Football: TE Cary Angeline deleted from Trojan roster
Former four-star tight end Cary Angeline has “quit” the USC Football team, according to the Trojans’ game notes ahead of Washington State.
There was a major shakeup on USC’s 2017 roster Sunday as redshirt freshman tight end Cary Angeline was deleted from the Trojan line up with a designation of “quit.”
No further details were given as to the tight ends motivation for leaving the program.
When reached for comment, a USC spokesman verified that Angeline had left the program. Head Clay Helton is expected to address his departure on Monday when the Trojans begin their preparation for this Friday night’s Washington State game.
Angeline had been listed as one of three backups to starter Tyler Petite at the tight end position, but he did not appear in USC’s wins over Texas or Cal despite an injury to Daniel Imatorbhebhe at the top of the depth chart. True freshman Josh Falo and Erik Krommenhoek saw more use than their older counter part.

The promising 6-foot-7 tight end redshirted after joining USC in the class of 2016 as the 10th ranked player in the class at his position. Though he did not see the playing field, he was named USC’s Offensive Service Team Player of the Year and appeared to have a bright future ahead of him with the Trojans.
This year, the Trojans added Falo and Krommenhoek to the lineup and Petite and Imatorbhebhe sat ahead of Angeline in the tight end pecking order, but the injury to Imatorbhebhe seemed to open the door for Angeline to see playing time. Instead, the redshirt freshman was not a major factor.
Angeline hails from Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. It is not unheard of for out-of-state players to experience homesickness, especially if playing time is not going there way. Still, it is a surprise for the Trojans to lose the services of a player who appeared on the cusp of contributing.
