USC Football stays put in AP poll after surviving road opener vs. Cal
USC Football stayed put in the Week 5 AP poll after surviving their Pac-12 road opener against Cal, ranking No. 5 for the second week.
USC Football took care of business in Berkeley on Saturday, overcoming a challenge from Cal to notch their fourth win of the season. As a reward, the Trojans did not move in this week’s AP poll.
The AP voters kept USC at No. 5 for the Week 5 poll, sitting behind No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson, No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 4 Penn State.
It was not an easy week for the two teams ahead of the Trojans as Oklahoma struggled with winless Baylor and Penn State won on the final play of the game against Iowa.
The Trojans weren’t spectacular against Cal either, pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 30-20 win, their 14th straight over the Bears and 13th victory in a row.
After four weeks of questionable wins, in the voters eyes at least, USC will get a resume builder when they travel to Pulman to take on No. 16 Washington State, up two spots this week.
The Cougars struggled with Boise State in Week 2, but they have ripped off sizable wins over Oregon State and Nevada in the past two weeks coming into this game. Both teams will be on short rest for their Friday night contest.

Washington also remained at No. 6 while Washington State moved up two spots to No. 16.
Utah was also a riser at No. 19 but Oregon was punished for their loss, dropping from the poll.
