Injuries have hit the Trojans hard in Week 3 of fall camp with Velus Jones the latest to miss out. Here’s a look at the USC injury report after practice No. 15.

With one key wide receiver missing out on Wednesday, USC added to their injury woes at wide receiver with the news that Velus Jones will miss some time with foot soreness.

Jones ended Tuesday’s practice at the Coliseum consulting with trainers, but he was able to walk off the field without a problem. On Wednesday, however, the receiver turned up to practice with a walking boot on his left foot.

Head coach Clay Helton was not majorly concerned with Jones’ injury, calling it a sore foot.

“He may have run six miles a day out here for the past three weeks and just needed a day off,” Helton said.

In fact, Jones will take a couple days off, according to the head coach. The staff will reevaluate him on Saturday. If need be, Jones will be rested during USC’s mock game week, but his official injury status is at “day-to-day.”

USC Injury Report:

  • Out for camp: LB Tayler Katoa (knee), CB Jonathan Lockett (hip), OT Nathan Smith (knee)
  • Out: LB Matt Bayle (undisclosed), TE Josh Falo (knee), CB Jalen Jones (undisclosed)LB Bryce Matthews (undisclosed), WR Michael Pittman (ankle), RB James Toland (groin), OL Alijah Vera-Tucker (hamstring), WR Keyshawn “Pie” Young (hamstring)
  • Questionable: CB Je’Quari Godfrey (quad), DL Brandon Pili (elbow), OL Cole Smith (knee), OL Andrew Voorhees (back), Aca’Cedric Ware (hand)
  • Limited: DL Kenny Bigelow (knee), WR Deontay Burnett (ankle), CB Je’Quari Godfrey (knee), TE Daniel Imatorbhebhe (hip), CB Greg Johnson (shoulder)

Michael Pittman is decidedly not day-to-day after suffering a “significant” high ankle sprain on Tuesday at the Coliseum.

Helton said the receiver could take a couple weeks to get back on the field, putting his availability for the season opener against Western Michigan in doubt.

There were a number of small injuries during Wednesday’s practice back at Howard Jones Field. Cornerback Je’Quari Godfrey suffered a quad injury, running back Aca’Cedric Ware was pulled with a hand problem and defensive lineman Kenny Bigelow was sidelined by knee soreness which will leave him day-to-day.

On the positive side of things, offensive lineman Andrew Vorhees’ sore back, which kept him out on Tuesday and Wednesday, is not a significant concern, Helton was happy to report. The true freshman is day-to-day for the time being.
