USC injury report: No major scrimmage injuries as Marvell Tell returns (8/12)
The Trojans avoided injuries during Saturday’s live scrimmage while easing Marvell Tell back in. Here’s the USC injury report from fall camp practice No. 12.
The valid fear around scrimmaging with live tackling is the risk of injury, but USC avoided any major issues on Saturday when they went full go at Howard Jones Field.
“We really came out, thank goodness, healthy,” head coach Clay Helton said after practice.
While offensive tackle Chuma Edoga came off limping after having his toe stepped on, he was able to return without incident.
Meanwhile, running back Aca’Cedric Ware was pulled with a slight shoulder sprain, but Helton was not overly concerned about the severity of that injury.
“Hopefully with a couple days of non-pads coming up Sunday and Monday he’ll be back,” he said.
USC Injury Report:
- Out for camp: LB Tayler Katoa (knee), CB Jonathan Lockett (hip), OT Nathan Smith (knee)
- Out: LB Matt Bayle (undisclosed), TE Josh Falo (knee), TE Daniel Imatorbhebhe (hip), CB Greg Johnson (shoulder), CB Jalen Jones (undisclosed), RB Corbin Jountti (undisclosed), LB Bryce Matthews (undisclosed), RB James Toland (groin), OL Alijah Vera-Tucker (hamstring), WR Keyshawn “Pie” Young (hamstring)
- Limited: DL Kenny Bigelow (knee), WR Deontay Burnett (ankle), CB Je’Quari Godfrey (knee), OL Frank Martin (hamstring), S Marvell Tell III (hamstring), TE Tyler Petite (concussion)
In positive news, safety Marvell Tell III was back in the line up for the 7-on-7 period. However, he was not allowed to participate in the live tackling scrimmage.
The same goes for tight end Tyler Petite, who is being eased back in after missing time with a concussion.

Daniel Imatorbhebhe is another injured tight end who is making progress, though his return is not scheduled for another week.
The redshirt sophomore did some full speed work earlier this week, but he turned up a little bit sore on Saturday, Helton said. There have been no setbacks, but Imatorbhebhe will do another week of trying to move at full speed until he feels comfortable, then he will be plugged back into the lineup.
The plan is to have him back for USC’s mock game week, two weeks ahead of the season opener against Western Michigan.

“Obviously Daniel is a great player and we want him out here as soon as we can get him,” Helton said.
