Adoree’ Jackson Earns Consensus All-American Honors

Adoree’ Jackson was named a first team cornerback by the Associated Press, making him USC’s first consensus All-American since 2012.

The AP released their 2016 All-American selections on Monday morning with Adoree’ Jackson alongside Michigan’s Jourdan Lewis as first team cornerbacks.

Combined with first team places for Jackson awarded by The Sporting News and the Walter Camp Foundation, the third All-American nod from official NCAA selectors makes the Trojan cornerback a consensus pick.

USC hasn’t had a consensus All-American — a player selected to the first team of at least three of the five official selectors — since Marqise Lee took home unanimous honors in 2012.

The Football Writers Association and the Football Coaches Association have yet to release their All-American teams, leaving the door open for Jackson to chase unanimous status.

Jackson was beat out for the Lott IMPACT Trophy by Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers on Sunday night, but he won the Jim Thorpe Award last week as the nation’s top defensive back. He was also a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award this season.

The junior cornerback was a force for the Trojans this season, taking home Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors as he totaled 51 tackles and led USC with four interceptions and 11 pass break ups.

He helped shut down elite receivers in the Pac-12 and made USC one of just two teams intercept Washington’s Jake Browning twice.

Already one of the greatest cornerbacks to ever play in the cardinal and gold — unquestionably the most decorated — Jackson will make a decision about his future with USC after the Trojans face off with Penn State in the 2017 Rose Bowl.

Jackson could leave early for the NFL as an intriguing prospect with a first round grade by some sources.

However, should he opt to return for his senior season, continuing his track career as a long jumper in the process, Jackson will be a favorite for even more awards and honors in 2017.

UPDATE: The Football Writers Association of America did not select Jackson as a first or second team All-American cornerback. However, he was named the first team punt returner.

While it is not explicitly clear, recognition as a unanimous All-American is tied to selection on the five recognized All-American teams, not to position. Therefore, Jackson can still be named a unanimous All-American if the football coaches include him on their first team in any capacity.
