USC NFL Week 10 Roundup: Su’a Cravens Notches Best Pro Outing

USC NFL action in Week 10 featured Washington’s Su’a Cravens making the biggest impression of his rookie season, plus more Projan highlights.

With the Buffalo (Trojans) Bills on a bye, it was a relatively quiet weekend for USC alums in the NFL.

Still, there were a couple of defensive performances worth noting. Unfortunately, the Trojans had some notably bad outings to cover as well.

Here’s how the Projans fared in Week 10 of the NFL season.

Three Stars of the Week

  1. Su’a Cravens: With five tackles, including a six-yard tackle for loss, Cravens earned praise from PFF with his “best game of the season so far.”
  2. Jurrell Casey: The Titans had their way with the Packers on Sunday and Casey was in the midst of it all, scoring second-highest among Tennessee defenders per PFF with two tackles. His dance moves also drew eyes.
  3. Carson Palmer: Coming off a bye, Palmer led the Cardinals to a victory over the 49ers with 376 yards on 30-of-49 passing, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.

What Other Projans Did

  • Nelson Agholor: Agholor had a paltry two receptions for seven yards as the Eagles beat the Falcons. The sophomore receiver continues to face heaps of criticism for his play this season. Pro Football Focus included him among their worst performers of the week, noting his inability to get open despite plenty of snaps, a drop and an unnecessary bobble which cost Philadelphia a challenge.
  • Buck Allen: The Ravens running back wasn’t as much of a factor in Baltimore’s win over Cleveland as he was last week, though he did get two carries for three yards, his first touches in three weeks.
  • Matt Barkley: Barkley did not get into the game for the Bears, who were embarrassed by the Buccaneers. With mounting calls for Jay Cutler to be benched and Barkley as the only other quarterback available to Chicago, that might change.
  • Reggie Bush: Bush was out of action as the Bills were on a bye week.
  • Jordan Cameron: Cameron was placed on season-ending IR due to the concussion he suffered early in the 2016 season. Though there were reports that he was considering retirement, there are now indications that he wants to keep playing.
  • Jurrell Casey: The Titans had their way with the Packers on Sunday and Casey was in the midst of it all, scoring second-highest among Tennessee defenders per PFF with two tackles. His dance moves also drew eyes.
  • Matt Cassel: Cassel joined Casey in the celebrations but didn’t see the field for the Titans.
  • Brian Cushing: Cushing only had three tackles for the Texans, who narrowly beat the Jaguars, but he rated highly against the run and PFF named him among Houston’s top five defenders. To make the week better, he was nominated for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

  • Rhett Ellison: He didn’t get into the endzone this week, but Ellison’s involvement in the Vikings offense continued to increase with two catches for eight yards as Minnesota fell to Washington.
  • Everson Griffen: Griffen had four tackles in the Vikings loss to the Redskins.
  • Xavier Grimble: Grimble had one catch for five yards, and dropped another, as the Steelers lost to the Cowboys.
  • Wes Horton: Maintaining his starting role, Horton had three tackles in Carolina’s close loss to Kansas City.
  • Matt Kalil: The Vikings placed Kalil on IR, ending his season.
  • Ryan Kalil: The other Kalil brother also remains out with a shoulder injury.
  • Devon Kennard: Kennard helped the Giants best the Bengals on Monday Night Football with two tackles.
  • Cody Kessler: It was a perplexing outing for the rookie quarterback, who started relatively well, going 11-of-18 for 91 yards and the Browns one touchdown of the night before being benched for Josh McCown. While Kessler wasn’t stellar, he was effective when given time. As PFF pointed out, the QB was 9-of-11 on passes when he wasn’t pressured. McCown, on the other hand, was completely ineffective.
  • Marqise Lee: Jacksonville narrowly lost to Houston as Lee tallied four catches for 50 yards. He also had one carry for six yards and drew pass interference penalties to keep the Jaguars offense moving.
  • Marcus Martin: Martin remains a back up at center for the 49ers.
  • Clay Matthews: Matthews missed the Packers’ loss to the Titans due to a hamstring injury.
  • Rey Maualuga: A lower body injury kept Maualuga out for the Bengals against the Giants.
  • T.J. McDonald: McDonald contributed four tackles as the Rams bested the Jets.
  • Mike Morgan: Morgan is back to practice after sitting out the last month with a groin injury.
  • Carson Palmer: Coming off a bye, Palmer led the Cardinals to a victory over the 49ers with 376 yards on 30-of-49 passing, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.
  • Nick Perry: Perry’s Packers couldn’t handle the Titans, but he came out smelling better than most with six tackles and PFF’s second-highest grade among Green Bay defenders.
  • Hayes Pullard: Pullard didn’t have an stats for the Jaguars in the loss to Houston.
  • Silas Redd: Redd remains indefinitely banned for a violation of the league’s substance policy.
  • Nickell Robey-Coleman: Robey-Coleman and the Bills were on a bye.
  • Frostee Rucker: Rucker didn’t log any tackles as Arizona beat San Francisco.
  • Mark Sanchez: Sanchez did not play for the Cowboys, who beat the Steelers.
  • Kevon Seymour: Seymour and the Bills were on a bye.
  • Josh Shaw:

Shaw had two tackles in Cincinnati’s loss to New York.

    More from Reign of Troy

  • Tyron Smith: Despite a hip problem nagging him, Smith started for Dallas against the Steelers and did Tyron Smith things.
  • Malcolm Smith: Smith and the Raiders were on a bye week.
  • Randall Telfer: Telfer caught one pass for the Browns against the Ravens, but it went for negative yardage.
  • Max Tuerk: Tuerk remains a back up at center for the Chargers.
  • Leonard Williams: Williams had four tackles as the Jets fell to the Rams.
  • Robert Woods: Woods got a week to relish last week’s stellar outing with the Bills bye.
  • Shareece Wright: Wright remained out with a back injury for the Ravens against the Browns.
