USC may be without Justin Davis for a month after the Trojan running back suffered a high-ankle sprain during Saturday’s win over Colorado.

Justin Davis left USC’s victory over No. 21 Colorado in the third quarter and had to be carted out of the Coliseum with the ankle injury head coach Clay Helton identified as a high-ankle sprain.

The Trojan running back was seen leaving the locker room walking with crutches and a boot on his foot.

Davis’ injury came at an unfortunate time for USC as they tried to run out the clock to prevent the Buffalo comeback. He had rushed effectively for the Trojans, finishing with 83 yards on 13 carries and a 6.4-yard average. However, he was also guilty of losing a fumble shortly before he went out.

Without Davis, USC turned to Ronald Jones II and Aca’Cedric Ware to carry the load. The two combined for 81 yards.

Though the Trojans buckled down to secure the win over Colorado, the USC offense could be seriously weakened without Davis over the next few weeks.

High-ankle sprains are notoriously tricky injuries, especially for a running back who depends on full mobility and strength in the ankle. Depending on the severity of the sprain, Davis could miss several weeks.

USC will go to Arizona next week before enjoying a bye week. The following week the Trojans are set to host Oregon at the Coliseum.

While it is not known just how long USC expects to be without Davis, a return ahead of the Trojans’ match up with highly-ranked Washington in Seattle would be a major boost considering he has been the Trojans most effective running back so far.

Davis leads all USC rushers with 487 yards in 2016, including two 100-yard performances going into Saturday’s game. He has two touchdowns on the year.
