USC Football: JuJu Smith-Schuster on Walter Camp Award 2016 Watch List

JuJu Smith-Schuster was named to the Walter Camp Award watch list as a candidate to be proclaimed the nation’s most outstanding player in 2016.

USC wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster continues to haul in offseason accolades as he was one of 40 players named to the Walter Camp Award watch list Thursday.

The Walter Camp Award is one of the oldest honors in the country and is given to the Player of the Year in college football.

Smith-Schuster proved himself among the top wide receivers in the nation last year as an All-Pac-12 first team selection. Making 89 receptions for 1,454 yards and ten touchdowns, while playing with a broken hand for the second half of the season, he was also named a second team All-American by multiple outlets.

Going into his junior season, Smith-Schuster was also named on the Biletnikoff Award watch list and is expected to be among the All-American candidates for this coming season.

Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey headlined the candidates from the Pac-12 along with Washington State quarterback Luke Falk, Oregon running back Royce Freeman, UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen and Arizona quarterback Anu Solomon.

USC will also face another pair of watch listers —  quarterback DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame and defensive back Eddie Jackson of Alabama.

The Trojans have had five Walter Camp Award winners going back to the inaugural winner O.J. SImpson in 1967. Simpson also won the award in 1968, followed by Charles White in 1979, Marcus Allen in 1981, Matt Leinart in 2004 and Reggie Bush in 2005.

Carson Palmer is was finalist in 2002 while Marqise Lee was a finalist in 2012. Bush and Leinart were finalists for each other in 2004 and 2005.
