Former USC wide receiver Keary Colbert is reportedly on his way back to Los Angeles to join Clay Helton’s staff, according to former USC cornerback Terrell Thomas.

Keary Colbert looks set to make his USC return, at least according to former Trojan cornerback Terrell Thomas, who tweeted his congratulations to the standout wide receiver Saturday afternoon.

On Instagram, Thomas wrote, “Man I am so happy that my guy @kearycolbert is now the WR coach at USC. This man is and has always been a class act. He played such a significant role in the 03′ class but more importantly has always challenged and taught me the game of football.”

Sports Illustrated’s Thayer Evans confirmed the report via his sources.

Colbert has been an offensive analyst for Alabama since 2014, helping the Crimson Tide to the 2015 national championship.

Though his exact role at USC has not been revealed or confirmed, he would likely fill a role as an offensive assistant to Tee Martin, who has taken on offensive coordinator duties in addition to his role as wide receivers coach. The Trojans have filled all nine positions for full-time assistant coaches.

Colbert served as a graduate assistant for the Trojans in 2013 coaching tight ends.

Few USC receivers have had as long or prolific a career as Colbert did as a Trojan. In four years as a starter he broke USC’s all-time receptions record with 207 catches, though that number has since been surpassed by Dwayne Jarrett, Robert Woods and Marqise Lee. He helped USC win the 2003 national championship as a senior captain while being named USC’s Most Inspirational player.

The addition of Colbert is the latest of Helton’s to bring back former staffers who served on Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron’s 2013 staff. USC returned John Baxter, Clancy Pendergast and Tommie Robinson to their posts on staff and recently drew LSU Director of Personnel Austin Thomas back into the fold. Fellow title-winning teammate from 2003, Kenechi Udeze, was also promoted to defensive line coach for this season.
