USC football wasted no time parting ways with Steve Sarkisian for good after it was announced that he would be taking a leave of absence Sunday night. Pat Haden fired the head coach officially Monday, leaving Twitter to explode for the second day in a row.

Sarkisian was deemed unfit for work Sunday, presumably due to continued struggles with alcohol abuse. The Trojans put him on a leave of absence to seek treatment but the conventional wisdom said that the second-year head coach would not be returning.
Still it caught most by surprise that USC made the parting official on Monday.
Here’s how the Twittersphere responded to the news:
This is second time in 3 years that #USC fired its HC after losing its fifth game of the season. Never had an in-season firing before that.

Not delaying the inevitable. He's been beyond embarrassing for the program, but more importantly, he needs srs help. https://t.co/2T91icnqen

If I'm a #USC fan, I'd be far more frustrated/angry with Haden than with Sarkisian. The latter has an illness. The former has no excuses

How many coaches can Pat Haden release before HIS job is the one in jeopardy? #USC

As I said yesterday, I didn't see a logistical or psychological way USC could keep Steve Sarkisian following this latest incident

#USC players are being notified individually by athletic officials that Sarkisian was fired. An athletic official just met with asst coaches

Since 1910, only one non-interim #USC CFB coach had a shorter coaching stint than Steve Sarkisian (18 games): Sam Barry (7 games) in 1941.

USC needs to call top 10 guys like Meyer + Dantonio, make them say no. Then move on to Harsin, Herman, Fuente.

USC in tough spot with Haden: Do it really want him to hire next HC? But needs him for Coliseum renovation

Is the USC coaching position basically the Defense Against the Dark Arts job?

As former USC sports information intern Will Ferrell once said, “That escalated quickly.”

I've been told USC is still in the early stages of compiling a list of coaches to go after. Ed Orgeron, I'm told, will not be on that list.
