Patterson was originally committed to Arizona back in 2013, before breaking off his commitment last summer. That was followed by receiving an offer from USC, putting the Trojans heavily in the mix since then.

It’s no secret that Steve Sarkisian is looking for a way to open up his offense from a static pro-style attack to a hurry-up no-huddle offense with the inclusion of various spread concepts.

Going out and signing four-star dual-threat quarterback Sam Darnold plays into that, especially given how Sarkisian raved about his ability as an athlete.

Patterson is very much in a similar mold to Darnold, as a dual-threat quarterback that has the ability to play both as a drop-back passer and a scrambler, making it easy to see why USC has been on him for the better part of a year.

But the Trojans aren’t alone, and they aren’t the favorite this morning.

In-state LSU has always been a player for Patterson, with his brother Sean having been employed by the Tigers as a graduate assistant.

And now, Ole Miss looks to be a favorite, as pointed out by both 247Sports’ JC Shurburtt, and the 247Sports Crystal Ball, where 35 of the 36 most recent predictions for Patterson have all been to Ole Miss.

Part of the reason for Ole Miss’s surge in the Patterson sweepstakes? The securing of Sean Patterson, who is set to be hired as part of Huge Freeze’s staff in Oxford.

Checkmate for the Rebels? We’ll find out at 10:00 a.m. Pacific.
