Rasheem Green Selects USC on ESPNU’s Signing Day Special

Five-star defensive end Rasheem Green has committed to USC, choosing to sign for the Trojans Wednesday over Oregon, ASU and Miami.

The Serra-product was a favorite to join USC, though he took an official visit to Arizona State and hosted an in-home visit with Miami coaches in the final weeks of January.

More from Reign of Troy

Ranked the No. 5 defensive tackle, the No. 6 player in California, and the No. 23 player over all in the 2015 class by 247Sports composite, Green was a major target for the Trojans, who are in need of defensive linemen to replace the departing Leonard Williams.

With a 6-5, 275 lb frame and room to grow, Green projects as a disruptive interior lineman. He is extremely athletic for his size and with some refinement he could reach the levels achieved by the aforementioned Williams.

Though a torn meniscus kept him out of the final game of his high school career, Green is expected to make an immediate impact at the college level.

He will certainly get that chance at USC.

The Trojans return starters in Antwaun Woods, Claude Pelon and Delvon Simmons, thought the latter two are still waiting to make their full impact for USC. Woods is fairly well established in his position but there could be an opening for Green to push Pelon and Simmons for their shared starting spot.

On top of that, Green is another capable body to add to a limited rotation.

USC already has the commitments of one interior linemen in four-star Jacob Daniel, while the defensive end position is set for the addition of four-star Noah Jefferson and three-star Christian Rector.

Green is yet another domino to fall in a class which may go down as one for the ages on defense, with five-star linebacker Osa Masina and four-star linebacker Porter Gustin already committed. Green’s Serra teammate, four-star linebacker John Houston, could make it four for four, while five-star cornerback Iman Marshall is set to decide later Wednesday.
