Three-star linebacker Daniel Green from Portland, Oregon announced his de-committment from USC football on Monday afternoon.
It’s been all smiles around USC since the Trojans earned a berth in the Rose Bowl, but the first week of bowl season started with a bit of a downer as three-star linebacker Daniel Green backed off his pledge.
Green posted a message on Twitter on Monday afternoon to announce his decision to de-commit.
“I’d like to thank USC for recruiting me and the scholarship opportunity. At this time, I’m going to Decommit and weigh my options,” Green said.
At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, Green was supposed to boost the Trojans ranks at inside linebacker. Now he is expected to look elsewhere in the Pac-12, with scholarship offers from Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Cal and Oregon State.

When Green committed to USC back in May, the Ducks were considered heavy favorites to land his signature and the expectation that he would end up staying home loomed over his commitment from the start.
The de-commitment leaves the Trojans with 15 commits in their 2017 recruiting class.
At linebacker, USC is left with three-star prospect Juliano Falaniko, though there is room in the class to pursue other recruits in that position.
USC’s class of 2017 is headlined by five-star running back Stephen Carr and four-star players like quarterback Jack Sears, defensive end Hunter Echols and offensive linemen Alijah Vera-Tucker and Brett Neilon.
