USC Football: Adoree’ Jackson Named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week

USC cornerback Adoree’ Jackson was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a punt for a touchdown against Utah State.

Adoree’ Jackson is a perfect one-for-one on punt returns in 2016. One return. One touchdown.

So it’s no surprise that the Pac-12 named Jackson the Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a punt 77 yards for a touchdown against Utah State.

Jackson picked up the bouncing punt late in the third quarter then weaved his way through the Utah State coverage going right before cutting back left and speed past the remaining defenders.

The return tied Jackson with the likes of Reggie Bush, Mike Battle and Jim Sears in USC’s record books with the second-most punt return touchdowns in Trojan history. He is now just one off of tying Nelson Agholor’s mark of two punt return touchdowns.

Jackson is now one of just 11 players in college football who have returned a punt for a touchdown this season. Along with his return, Jackson added two tackles at the cornerback spot against Utah State.

Besides Jackson, the Pac-12’s other Players of the Week included ASU’s Kalen Ballage on offense and Utah’s Sunia Tauteoli on defense.

Ballage broke the Pac-12 record for touchdowns in a single game with eight scores during the Sun Devil’s win over Texas Tech.

Tauteoli had two interceptions against BYU, including a pick six on the first play from scrimmage. He was assisted on the tackle to stop BYU’s two-point conversion attempt at the end of the game to preserve Utah’s victory.

Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was nominated for the Offensive Player of the Week nod with two touchdowns and a vicious block at the goal line.

On defense, linebacker Cameron Smith was also put for honors after his 13-tackle performance against the Aggies.
