Three-star athlete Juwan Burgess committed to USC football Wednesday, becoming the 11th commitment for the Trojans’ class of 2017.

Make that commitment No. 11 for USC football. Days after the Trojans landed their tenth commit for 2017, the Trojans welcomed the pledge of Tampa, Florida athlete Juwan Burgess.

Burgess, who announced for the Trojans at a Commitment Ceremony at Plant High School, chose USC over Miami, Florida, Kentucky, Ohio State and Tennessee.

Interestingly enough, when Burgess first announced his Top 5 back in May, the Trojans didn’t make the cut.

However, Burgess visited USC last month and that appears to have made a big enough impression to prompt the commitment from the athlete from the Sunshine State.

Burgess is the No. 23 athlete in the class, according to the 247 Sports composite. He is the No. 51 prospect in the state of Florida and the No. 358 player in the class.

At 6-foot-0, 185 pounds Burgess plays receiver and defensive back in high school, with enough athleticism to return kicks and strong ball skills for a defender.

Considering USC’s situation at receiver, having just signed a class of five highly-regarded receivers in the 2016 class, Burgess is likely to end up on the defensive side of the ball for the Trojans.

More from Reign of Troy

There he’ll join fellow three-star cornerback Wylan Free from Carson, who committed to the Trojans last week.

Though USC has done an excellent job bringing in top talents like Adoree’ Jackson, Iman Marshall and Jack Jones on the defensive side of the ball, there are still gaps to be filled at cornerback with Jackson likely to depart for the NFL after this season and Marshall expected to follow soon after.

USC’s 2017 class now stands at 11 players strong, headlined by five-star running back Stephen Carr and four-star center Brett Neilon. It also includes three-star prospects in tackle Andrew Vorhees, tight end Erik Krommenhoek, wide receiver Marlon Williams, athlete Randal Grimes, safety C.J. Miller, and linebackers Juliano Falaniko and Daniel Green.
