USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin was named the 247Sports Recruiter of the Year for 2016 after helping the Trojans land a Top 10 class.
Tee Martin, new USC offensive coordinator and established super recruiter, was named the 2016 Recruiter of the Year by 247Sports Thursday morning:
"Martin led most of the year and as the ink dried on National Signing Day, it was him and taking the title. sitting atop the 247Sports Recruiter Rankings 247Sports Recruiter of the Year “That’s special to me but we all know this is a team effort,” Martin said. “It starts with the head coach, the coordinators, the recruiting coordinator, every assistant coach and especially the off the field guys that never get the credit and no one knows about. It’s a credit to everybody.”"
Though USC’s 2016 class was pegged as a potential disappointment heading into Signing Day, the Trojans finished strong, leaping up the team recruiting rankings and into the Top 10 by some measures.
In addition to landing the nation’s top cornerback prospect Jack Jones, USC secured some major out-of-state recruiting victories by flipping safety Jamel Cook and running back Vavae Malepeai from Florida State and Oregon respectively. The Trojans also stole defensive end Connor Murphy and offensive tackle E.J. Price out of Arizona and Georgia.

Martin’s contributions to USC’s class as a whole were major. He hit it out of the park by bringing in one of the top receiver groups in country with Tyler Vaughns, Michael Pittman, Josh Imatorbhebhe, Trevon Sidney and Velus Jones. He is also listed by 247Sports as the primary recruiter for five-star defensive end Oluwole Betiku, Jones, Price, Cook, Serra safety C.J. pollard and three-start cornerback Keyshawn “Pie” Young.
During his Wednesday Signing Day press conference head coach Clay Helton credited his staff with the relentless pursuit of their targets, which allowed the Trojans to be so successful.
Though there were certainly questions about the promotion of Martin from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator, his recruiting prowess has never been in doubt. This recruiting cycle just verifies that.
In Scout’s 2016 conference recruiter awards Martin was an honorable mention to UCLA’s Scott White.
