December will give USC coach Eric Musselman the chance to go back to familiar grounds. As reported on X by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, the team will face San Diego on December 9.

For coach Musselman, this is going to be a game that has a lot of personal meaning to him. The San Diego Men's Basketball X account shared that while the Trojan HC was with the Toreros at the time, he helped to lead the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances.

It was at San Diego that coach Musselman enjoyed playing for four years, learning about the game and developing. His time in the program ultimately allowed him to have the springboard that would see him have as much coaching success and as many experiences as he has had up to this point in his basketball career.

In a letter that coach Musselman shared on X, coach Jim Brovelli reached out to the current USC coach as a junior, stating how San Diego was looking to make headway as a conference newcomer in the West Coast Athletic Conference.

As evidenced by what was accomplished by those Torero teams, coach Brovelli did indeed create a strong contender, and a college point guard at the time played a large role in San Diego's success.

Significant matchup for USC HC

Fast forward to today, and coach Musselman's current teams show that same level of determination and fight that is needed, particularly when going up against the established basketball powers throughout the nation.

For coach Musselman, it will be another game on December 9. By the same token, returning back to the campus of his alma mater and coaching for the other team will also be a crowning full-circle moment that he is going to cherish and be tremendously appreciative of. This is one USC fans will not want to miss.
