The Trojans have finalized their No. 1 ranked 2026 recruiting class, and with bowl game preparations underway, the focus now shifts toward the 2026 season and the 2027 recruiting class. Attention turns into identifying which newcomers have the best chance to make an immediate impact. In my opinion, several true freshmen will contribute from day one, and many will form the foundation for USC’s rise to national dominance. That said, I have selected one offensive player and one defensive player to highlight as potential instant starters.

Instant Impact: Offense

I am selecting tight end Mark Bowman from Mater Dei. While Boobie Feaster (WR) and Keenyi Pepe (OT) are also strong choices, Bowman faces the least resistance to early playing time. Even if there were a player ahead of him on the depth chart, it would not hinder his ability to get on the field quickly. The Trojans secured the signing of the class with Bowman, as he is someone who could have contributed at a high level this past season. He is day-one ready and capable of lining up in multiple formations, offering Lincoln Riley considerable creative flexibility. This selection is somewhat dependent on Jayden Maiava’s return. If Maiava departs for the NFL, Bowman will still be highly effective; however, with Maiava running the offense, Bowman could quickly establish himself as the best tight end in the conference.

Instant Impact: Defense

The Trojans took an aggressive approach this cycle in securing defensive talent, signing numerous players on that side of the ball who can make both immediate and long-term impacts on the program. Leading the way for day-one impact is Elbert Hill, the five-star cornerback from Ohio. Widely recognized as the top cornerback in the nation and the best in his state, Hill possesses the size, skill, and mentality to start immediately. The Trojans aim to bolster a secondary that has shown promise but struggled at times throughout the season. Known for his ball-hawking instincts, Hill brings the athleticism in coverage needed to help the defense generate coverage sacks when the pass rush falls short.
