The world is coming to Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics, and the USC campus will play a huge role in the world's biggest sporting event. This will be the third time that the City of Angels will be at the forefront of all of athletics. Given the grand scope and nature of the facilities that the university has to offer, naturally the International Olympic Committee (IOC) turned to some of the top-notch venues to hold the events that will end up awarding gold medals.

In a previous announcement, the Coliseum was named as the place selected to hold the track and field events. In a Tuesday announcement, the IOC released that Rhythmic Gymnastics would be held at the USC Sports Center. The same venue will also be where Badminton matches will be played as well.

This was expected, with host cities often taking advantage of the available resources that are within the vicinity of the Olympics. Naturally, LA28 would aim to use the USC campus for various components of the games. For the Trojan infrastructure to be used and be front and center for two of the most watched and anticipated events in Rhythmic Gymnastics and Track and Field, as well as a deeply competitive event in Badminton, only further shows how highly regarded the facilities are at the university.

The opening and closing ceremonies will also be at the Coliseum, as previously announced. It's fitting that when the most prestigious event in all of athletics is held, it begins and ends at the storied venue on the USC campus.

Looking ahead to LA28 on the USC campus

A lot of time will pass between now and then, but blink and it will be three years from now, with the best of the best racing, somersaulting, and scoring on the beautiful USC campus. It isn't too far away either. Between now and LA28, a couple of current Trojans will be making a strong case to be included in the home Team USA roster, as well as being selected for the nation's Olympic teams of the many different countries that the student-athletes originate from.

While many will be happily cheering for the Red, White, and Blue, tuning in to the athletic feats across the numerous competitions and seeing a former Trojan is a high likelihood three years from now. Fortunately for everyone competing, it will be on familiar ground if their events are in Track and Field
