The moment wasn’t too big, the travel wasn't an issue, and the crowd, even with 114,000 screaming fans couldn't stop USC from turning the page. By taking down Penn State 31-23 in a wild White Out, Lincoln Riley’s Trojans proved the "soft" label is officially outdated.
It’s easily the biggest win of the Riley era. We’ve seen big games against LSU and Michigan, but this one just felt different. And honestly, it’s because it actually is different.

There’s so much to unpack from this game, but let’s knock out the housekeeping first. Jayden Maiava was pretty shaky against Washington. His throws were off, his reads were sloppy, and it was just a rough day at the office. But man, seeing him show up in that packed Beaver Stadium was a total 180. He was legendary, putting up 301 yards, three touchdowns, and zero picks while picking apart that defense all night long.
Whether he was launching deep balls, hitting check-downs, or scrambling for his life, No. 14 was absolutely on fire. To top it off, having Trent Mosley back was a game-changer. He led the game with nine catches for 111 yards, and if the defense couldn’t handle Maiava, they definitely had no answer for No. 4. He even snagged the first touchdown of the night, keeping up his streak of scoring in every single game he's played for USC.
Not bad for a true freshman. The defense kept that same energy, sealing the win with a massive turnover on the final drive to let the clock run out. That’s two weeks in a row the Trojans' D has stepped up to close things out, keeping their opponents under 25 points both times.

The stats tell one story, but the real credit goes to the guy in the visor. Lincoln Riley’s been hearing a lot of noise since the Oregon game, but that feels like ancient history now. Not only did he lead his team into the loudest stadium in the country, but he and his staff completely outplayed the competition.
His game plan was on point, especially that gutsy onside kick to open the second half, which showed how much he really trusts his defense. And opting to take the ball first? Pure genius; the offense marched right down the field and punched it in to set the tone early.
The best part was seeing Lincoln Riley really dial it in and adjust on the fly. He had the team ready to trade blows and they didn't flinch when it came time to finish the job. It’s wild that USC barely trailed at all, and you could tell Riley was totally in his groove. His staff was right there with him, and it’s clear they were more than ready for the bright lights.
Seeing Lincoln Riley let his guard down like that at the end really hit home. You could tell he’s been feeling the heat, and this win was his way of proving he’s got the right vision for this program. It’s rare to see him get that emotional, so you know this one meant a ton. We can talk about how the team builds on this later, but for now, let’s just soak it in. the Trojans are 6-1. Everything is still on the table, and this final stretch is going to be a wild ride. Buckle up.
