USC is winning on the recruiting trail again, and this time it's a big fish that may land in Southern California, according to some industry experts.
On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong has projected USC to land a commitment from 2027 safety prospect Honor Fa’alave Johnson. The 6-foot, 170-pound standout from Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California, is a two-sport athlete who shines in both football and track and field.

The highly touted safety prospect is already considered a frontrunner to become the top-ranked player in California for the 2027 class. He’s earned notable honors, including selections to both the Polynesian Bowl and the Navy All-America Bowl rosters.
Despite being sidelined for five games due to transfer regulations after moving to Cathedral Catholic in 2024, Fa’alave-Johnson quickly made his presence felt. He finished the season with 18 tackles and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, while also contributing on offense with two rushing scores in limited opportunities.
Fa'alave-Johnson Ranks
According to 247 Sports, Fa’alave-Johnson is rated as the No. 1 safety in the nation, the top overall player in California, and holds a five-star rating with an impressive prospect score of 99.
With USC already boasting the nation’s top-ranked 2026 recruiting class, securing a commitment from the premier safety in the 2027 cycle would further solidify the Trojans’ momentum on the recruiting trail.
