USC Trojans News: Caleb Williams dominates Heisman vote, LB in transfer portal, more
By Evan Desai
USC Football QB Caleb Williams is officially the Heisman Trophy winner of the 2022 season. He is SC's first Heisman winner since Running Back Reggie Bush took home the trophy in 2005, and he is the No. 8 Heisman Trophy winner in Trojan history. No other college football program has won as many Heisman Trophies as USC.
Williams had 4,447 total yards on the season--which was the most in SC history. To have the most productive year in terms of yardage in the history of the school with the most Heisman Trophies was more than worthy of another Heisman Trophy for Williams. Arguably even more impressive, he had 47 total touchdowns (37 passing) to just four total interceptions.

USC Football Linebacker Tayler Katoa entered the transfer portal on Monday, which adds to the exodus of Trojan linebackers hitting the portal. Katoa never saw the field much at SC, so it's not a huge loss, though. The only issue with this is that SC is going to be thin at linebacker with all of these bodies transferring. The thing is, however, that SC was always going to be thin at linebacker.
The goal of this offseason at the linebacker position was always going to be to improve via the recruiting cycle as well as the transfer portal. So far, they have done that in gaining a 2023 commitment from four-star (247Sports) Many (Louisiana) Linebacker Tackett Curtis. A Curtis for Katoa swap is a quality one for the Trojans.

Army and Navy just played another classic in that rivalry's great series, which marks the end of the regular season of college football. From now on, the only college football games to be played will be between teams that earned trips to bowl games. SC's bowl game will be on January 2nd. That game is the Cotton Bowl between the No. 10 ranked Trojans and the No. 16 ranked Tulane Green Wave.
Perhaps keeping an eye out for the rest of the Pac-12's performance in bowl games would be worthwhile for recruiting and transfer portal implications. Seven Pac-12 programs made bowl games. The first Pac team to play in the bowl season will be the No. 14 Oregon State Beavers, when they take on the 6-6 Florida Gators in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 17th.
