USC football roster: Buy or sell the Trojan quarterback unit in 2021

The USC football roster is stronger at quarterback than you might think with Kedon Slovis leading the way and intriguing backups to choose between.

So should all those Trojan fans putting their money into Dogecoin also put their faith in the passers in cardinal and gold?

Slovis is an easy place to start. He's the best quarterback returning in the conference even if 2020 felt like a step back from the year before.

He led the Pac-12 with 320.2 yards per game while tossing 17 touchdowns and completing 67 percent of his passes.

It could have been prettier for Slovis. His wobbly spiral was a talking point throughout. However, being more than a year removed from elbow surgery may be all he needs to fix that problem.

Whatever he does, Slovis needs to get the monkey off his back when it comes to playing Oregon. He's 0-2 against one of the Trojans' biggest Pac-12 rivals with six interceptions and a completion rating of 55 percent in two meetings.

The Ducks won't be on the regular-season schedule (unless something unexpected shifts in the Pac-12 rotation) but he'll have to be ready to face them in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

What happens if Slovis is injured or otherwise unavailable? The uncertainty begins.

Veteran backup Matt Fink is expected to return. So is Vanderbilt transfer Mo Hasan. Both have starting experience and bring a more mobile skillset to the table. Either would be a safe option to deploy if needed.

However, if Slovis faces a long-term absence, expect the Trojans to be a bit more bold.

Two freshmen quarterbacks will be joining the program this year: Miller Moss and Jaxson Dart.

The pair of Top 100 prospects will have an opportunity to win over the backup spot this offseason. Slovis himself did it in 2019, beating out Fink and Jack Sears for the priviledge of sitting behind JT Daniels. He was one tackle away from becoming a star.

The fact is USC has the top quarterback in the west and four capable options to cover for him. It's a no-brainer to buy in.
