USC Football at Utah Prediction and Odds for Week 7 CFB (Trojans finally underdogs)
By Evan Desai
USC Football is finally on to what was expected to be their toughest contest of the season this week. That would be their Week 7 matchup against the Utah Utes, where they will be playing in their first ranked matchup of the season. The Utes are 4-2, and not 6-0 like USC, but they are still ranked as the No. 20 team in the country.
USC Football vs. Utah Odds Week 7
According to WynnBET, the spread for the contest is -3.5 Utah. It's -115 to take that -3.5 Utah, and it's -105 to take the +3.5 USC. It was expected to be the toughest matchup of the season for SC heading into the season, and this spread just might prove that. It's the first time that the Trojans haven't been favored this year.
USC Football vs. Utah Prediction Week 7
Unfortunately, it's probably wise to take the -3.5 Utah, ahead of their matchup with USC Football. While SC has been playing very well this year, and is ranked 13 spots ahead of the Utes at No. 7, the Utes are a different beast at home. They've won 11 straight home games at Rice-Eccles Stadium, dating back to the 2020 season.
The Trojans themselves are 1-3 in their last four trips there. They did win the last time they played in Salt Lake City, but they also got smoked by the Utes last year in the Coli, in what appeared to be an awful matchup for USC. While SC has so far been better this season, the Utes have a stronger culture intact right now than what USC has, due to SC being in a transition year with a new head coach.
That, along with Utah not having lost a home game since Week 1 of the 2020 season, foreshadow what is probably to be USC's first loss of the season. The Utes' stronger culture is more equipped to handle adversity than USC's is, and USC will definitely get punched in the mouth at some point on Saturday.
SC's a good team, and the first 6-0 Trojan squad since 2006. That being said, Utah is due to let out plenty of frustration from what happened last week at the Rose Bowl, in a game that's a true must-win for them to stay in the race for the Pac-12.
Typically, teams facing must-win games that have impeccable cultures set within their programs bear down and win those must-win games. Utah fits that profile for this week.
