During USC Football's game against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, Devils' DL Nesta Jade Silvera poured water on Caleb Williams as he was running back to the huddle from the ASU sideline:
It's unclear how this was not called for a flag, but it turned out that it didn't matter. Silvera did this for a reason. He was very frustrated with how badly Williams was tearing up he and his defense. On the day, Williams hit on 27 passes out of 37. He threw for 348 passing yards, and ran for 44 rushing yards on eight carries. He put up four total touchdowns (three passing) and threw just one interception.
Unfortunately for Silvera, however, his strange water tactic actually backfired. Who's to say Williams would have destroyed the Sun Devils to this extent without the extra motivation from Silvera? Williams himself cited the extra hydration from Silvera that he got via Silvera's water strategy on Twitter:
Williams couldn't have handled this situation better. Not only did he ball up Silvera on the field, but he also let him know about it when the video made the rounds online. Of course, the video shows Williams absolutely SHATTERING Silvera's ankles during the game.
Caleb Williams put Nesta Jade Silvera on skates via that juke move during USC Football's Week 5 game.
It was a rough night for Nesta Jade Silvera in his efforts to slow down Caleb Williams and USC Football. He only collected four tackles on the day and that was it. Unfortunately for him, he did not record any sacks, tackles for loss, or QB hurries in the contest. He also got called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty late in the game.
ASU ended up losing the game 42-25. Silvera's tactics did not work out for he and his teammates, and USC ended up advancing to 5-0 on the year. They are ranked as the No. 6 team in the country, and look to advance to 6-0 on the season against the Washington State Cougars this weekend.
ASU advanced to 1-4 on the year and are underdogs in their home contest coming up on Saturday against 4-1 Washington.
