Since the season opener, one of USC Basketball’s most consistent players has been the fifth-year senior, Drew Peterson. Through his 36.1 minutes per game, Peterson exceeded his expectations. Though his percentages may have slightly decreased, he is averaging career highs across the board.

Moreover, Peterson’s play as of late may be something to take note of. His presence on both ends of the floor is one of the main reasons head coach Andy Enfield has built a six-game win streak. Clearly, the coaching staff trusts Peterson, and he has done nothing but deliver.

That said, USC Basketball played a challenging ball game against Colorado State. Following a four-point lead at the end of the half, Enfield had to adjust his strategy to close out with the win. The Trojans did just that as they finished with a nine-point victory.

Though several players shined, Peterson earned the game’s most valuable player. In addition to his 18 points, he finished with five rebounds and four assists. Peterson also hustled on the defensive end with two steals and one block.

An outing like this is a prime example of why USC’s game plan runs through talents like Peterson. This game was a must-win as Enfield is looking to ignite momentum with the season progressing. Without Peterson, it is safe to say the Trojans would have faced a disappointing loss to the underperforming Colorado State Rams.

With Drew Peterson in command, USC Basketball is in a strong position to succeed. While the numbers may look good, Peterson makes many plays that will not appear in the box scores. This adds to how he passes the eye test each time he steps on the court.

Furthermore, Enfield will need Peterson to continue to thrive as USC’s schedule does not get any easier. There are multiple Pac-12 rivals ahead that the Trojans must beat to crack the AP Top 25. With Peterson at his best, Enfield’s strategy will lead to success time and time again.

Nonetheless, if Peterson shows out, he will likely find himself in the mix for some of the nation’s most prestigious awards. Additionally, USC Basketball has the potential to compete for a deep tournament run. Although Peterson may hold a ton of pressure, he has a record of dominance and will do so once again.
