Throughout the last few months, several of the top players in the nation have announced their commitment to USC football. With head coach Lincoln Riley now in the driver's seat, highly-recruited prospects see an opportunity to play for one of the top schools in the country. Furthermore, the future of USC football is in great hands.

It was recently announced that Joey Olsen, a four-star recruit from Lakeridge High School, has committed to USC. With many other offers from division one schools, the star tight end chose to take his talents to Southern California. As he stands at 6’5”, 220 lbs, it is clear why Olsen is ranked as a top 10 tight end in the country, as well as the number one tight end in the state of Oregon.

In addition to his unreal measurements, Olsen also runs track and field for his high school team. In the 100-meter dash, Olsen finished the 2022 outdoor season with a time of 11.29 seconds which was listed as a personal record.

Moreover, Olsen’s skillset is one of a kind. With a combination of elite hands, exceptional route running, and lightning speed, Olsen is seemingly unguardable. He also brings great blocking for a tight end at his size, which adds to why he is one of the highest-ranked players in his position.

USC football commit, Joey Olsen, will soon be known as the best tight end in the country.

Due to his prototypical size, Joey Olsen can also be utilized as a wide receiver for USC football. In the slot, on the outside, or in the end zone, Olsen can do it all. Lincoln Riley’s game plan will be centered around Olsen, as defenses will come up short when trying to stop USC’s offense.

Throughout his sophomore year for the Lakeridge Pacers, Olsen posted 28 receptions, 727 receiving yards, and 7 touchdowns. Additionally, Olsen averaged 26.0 yards per reception, along with 66.1 yards per game. These numbers are extremely impressive, especially because he only played 11 games last season.

In one-on-one coverage, Olsen is a matchup nightmare. No matter what defenses throw at him, Olsen can either outrun his opponent or use his athleticism to make a contested catch. Either way, he will be making a play on the ball. These qualities are comparable to some of the best tight ends in college football.

Currently, USC is in the mix for one of the top rankings in the country. They will remain in this position for many years to come, as Olsen graduates in the class of 2024. It should not be long before Olsen is at the top of the headlines as the nation’s leading tight end. Until then, USC football fans have so much to look forward to.
