The five most important USC football players in 2024
By John Fye
No. 1 – Quarterback Miller Moss
To no one's surprise, we have named the starting quarterback the most important USC football player for 2024. Teams cannot win a flag football game without a competent quarterback, and the Trojans' pending success relies heavily on Miller Moss.
Moss looked phenomenal in his first collegiate start last bowl season. With Caleb Williams looking on, Moss threw for 372 yards and a Holiday Bowl-record six touchdowns. More importantly, the junior redshirt looked comfortable and controlled Riley's offense.
Since his Holiday Bowl performance, all the talk regarding Moss has been positive. Indeed, the locker room is very confident in the quarterback's ability to lead the Trojans. Such a dynamic is critical to a first-year starter's success.
Moss has the tall task of commanding USC football as a new member of the Big Ten conference. It will take work, as the Trojans' style of play is different from what they were used to in the Pac-12. Also, USC is slated to play several new and unfamiliar opponents in regular-season games. The intense travel requirements are another consideration.
Ultimately, USC football will succeed in 2024 if Moss is as good as his Holiday Bowl performance indicates. Riley will likely seek a more balanced approach on offense this season and rely on Moss to avoid turnovers.
The signal-caller is more than capable of delivering the wins.
