Mike Bohn becomes first USC Trojans Athletic Director to receive No. 1 AD honor
By Evan Desai
No USC Trojans Athletic Director had ever won FBS Athletics Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics until Tuesday. Mike Bohn took home the award, after a series of tremendous accomplishments from Bohn and the USC athletics department.
It wasn't just that Bohn had the grand slam hire of one of the most wild college football coaching carousels ever in poaching Lincoln Riley. He also hired an NBA coach as the Women's Basketball head coach for USC in Lindsay Gottlieb. Furthermore, he extended one of the hottest head coaching names of this upcoming cycle in Andy Enfield for the men's team.
SC won three National Championships in 2021 to go along with that. They won Nattys in Women's Water Polo, Women's Track and Field, and Beach Volleyball. There were no athletic programs to top those three chips in 2021. It is very nice to know that we finally have a competent AD running the show at SC.
USC Trojans Athletic Director Mike Bohn is more than competent.
This is now the second time USC Trojans Athletic Director Mike Bohn has been recognized in this way. Bohn already received the 2021-22 Cushman & Wakefield Athletics Director of the Year Award. Bohn has proven to be a significant improvement over both Lynn Swann and Pat Haden.
Bohn's response to his award? Nothing but class:
"Whenever a leader is recognized, it is a reflection of the entire organization and the dedicated people within it...It is a blessing to be on a team at USC that has made incredible impact and enacted meaningful change during the most transformative period in the history of college athletics. Each day I am inspired by the efforts of our coaches and staff to build a student-athlete centered program that garners national respect and fulfills our vision and mission as an athletics program."
- Mike Bohn, USC Athletic Director
He made it a clear point to go ahead and raise up everyone around him, despite just winning the most prestigious personal award out there for him to take. The best part about Bohn is that his success and the success of the athletics program extends beyond the field of play. SC has the highest NCAA Graduation success rate that they've ever had at 92%.
"Mike is transforming the culture of USC Athletics in so many ways, and I want to congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition...Putting students first and caring about their development on and off the field is Mike’s primary focus, and we are already seeing the positive impact of that strategy across the breadth of Trojan Athletics. Much progress has been made, but the best is yet to come."
- Carol Folt, USC President
The best truly is yet to come. Three other AD's got the honor as well this year: John Currie (Wake Forest), Boo Corrigan (North Carolina State), and Hunter Yurachek (Arkansas). Very few Athletic Directors, however, can say that they have the dominant future outlook that Bohn does with Riley leading the football team and Enfield running the basketball squad.
