Four-star 2023 Defensive Back recruit Maliki Crawford has officially committed to the USC football program (all recruiting ratings and rankings in article are as of 247Sports). In fact, according to 247Sports' Greg Biggins, Crawford committed to the Trojans last week during an unofficial visit.
Crawford was originally committed to the UCLA Bruin football program, but decommitted on January 23rd. This was obviously the correct decision to ditch the lowly Bruins for the blueblood Trojans. Nobody wants to play on the other L.A. team when Lincoln Riley is running the show at SC.
Who would want to play at UCLA over USC regardless? UCLA has won just one national championship in their entire existence, and they've only won 613 games ever (just 61st all-time). They haven't finished a season ranked since all the way back in 2014. Last season was the first time they finished .500 or better since 2015.
Even when they finally are above .500, they can't even crack the poll, and then get greeted to an offseason where USC brings in a top five coach in America. And to top it all off, USC is now taking a blue-chipper from them. Crawford is an excellent recruit, and the No. 22 player in California for this 2023 class.
New USC Football DB commit Maliki Crawford is the No. 33 corner in the nation.
Maliki Crawford plays on both sides of the ball in high school, but of course will probably be playing just defense for USC football. At 6-3.5, 180 lbs, he's got a long frame that will surely aid him in his pass coverage.
Biggins credits Crawford with playing a physical game too, which fits in perfectly with what USC has going on right now. Each of the four and five-star corners that USC brought in for their last class (Domani Jackson and Fabian Ross) have physicality in their games as well.
USC now has the No. 13 recruiting class in college football for the 2023 class, giving them now 14 commitments. There are only eight of the 13 programs ahead of USC who have higher average recruit ratings too, showing that while USC may be lacking in quantity, they're not lacking in quality.
SC already had two five-star recruits, and now they have a sixth four-star. They have the first-ranked class in the Pac-12, and are the only team with 14 or less commits in the top 15 in the country. This class is coming on strong, and setting up for even more success as the season gets going.
