During USC football's spring game last Saturday, all fans knew just how impressive Caleb Williams was about to look. Williams indeed did pick up where he left off from last year; going 10 for 12 with 98 passing yards and two touchdowns. The best part, however, was who he connected with for those two touchdowns.
Both TD's were reeled in by Mario Williams, one of Caleb's top targets from last season while they were both true freshmen for Oklahoma. Mario showed a lot of promise last season in Riley's offense, just like Caleb did.
He may not have been the superstar Caleb was, but still was very productive despite not being the No. 1 option there. He caught 35 passes for 380 yards and four touchdowns.
Add in that promise along with remembering what kind of prospect he was out of high school, and it's easy to see why USC fans are so bullish on Mario this upcoming season. Mario was a four-star transfer to SC, and also a four-star recruit to Lincoln Riley when he signed with OU (all recruiting rankings and ratings are as of 247Sports).
USC football QB Caleb Williams is about to have a lot of fun this year when targeting Mario Williams.
Caleb Williams and Mario Williams not only showed the connection they still have, but showed that they have it perfected. Mario very well may be the best option for SC regardless of who would be throwing the rock for the Trojans in 2022. Now, factor in his already built-in chemistry he has with Caleb, and he's no doubt going to be SC's No. 1.
Mario was the No. 4 Wide Receiver coming out of the 2021 recruiting class, and Caleb was the No. 2 QB coming out of the '21 class. Picking up these two in the transfer portal is about as much of a game-changer as it gets when they also have that continuity with each other and with USC's new head coach.
