USC Football Tight End Jude Wolfe will need surgery for a foot injury, and he'll miss the first half of the season as a result.
Wolfe was really relying on a bounce-back season this year, as injuries, poor coaching, and less-than-ideal performance have led to Wolfe posting just 10 catches so far in his USC career. He's been here since 2019. He was seen in a walking boot earlier this week, but the hope was that the injury wouldn't be too serious.
That's because tight end reps on this team are a bit up for grabs. None of the tight ends on this squad are proven guys just yet. So while Wolfe was likely low on the depth chart, he still had a chance to impress in fall camp and earn some game reps.
And his talent very well could be big for this team. He was a four-star recruit out of powerhouse St. John Bosco (all recruiting ratings and rankings in article are as of 247Sports).
Jude Wolfe was the No. 8 tight end in the 2019 recruiting class when USC football picked him up.
Jude Wolfe had the potential, and now had the chance to really develop now that he finally has some real coaching here with him at the USC football program. There wasn't going to be much tight end development with Clay Helton and Graham Harrell running the show. Now, SC will have to hope that really all three of Josh Falo, Lake McRee, and Malcolm Epps shine through this season.
There's not as much of a margin for error with a potential impact tight end in Wolfe on the sideline. The good news, however, is that he's expected to be back for the second half of the year--just in time for the Utah game.
That'll be quite the opportunity for him to get back and make his mark on this program. Nobody wants to get back out there more than Wolfe, and while this injury news was tough to hear, he'll be back and ready to Fight On come Game 7.
