USC is facing Michigan. This is a critical matchup. The Trojans lost a close one to Illinois when they last stepped foot on the field, and this Wolverines team possesses the ability to take advantage of some of the same factors that ended up leading to a Trojan loss.
Unfortunately for USC, the task has become that much more difficult. The offensive line in particular is going to be tested more than what it normally would be.
The Trojan line is already without Kilian O'Connor. Experienced center J'Onre Reed, however, has stepped in and is showing why coach Riley wanted to bring someone of his pedigree from the portal.
Team leader and left tackle pillar Elijah Paige is also missing the action. As initially shared on X by Connor Morrissette, the lineman was unable to participate in the Wolverine game and was declared out shortly before kickoff.
This brings an increased need for the rest of the players in that position group to step up and to fill a significant void that is left through his absence.
Paige's inability to suit up due to injury has resulted in Tobias Raymond getting the start at left tackle.
Going up against this Michigan defensive line is going to reveal how well the Trojans can adjust without one of their main and key players up front.
Protecting Jayden Maiava and opening up lanes for the likes of Waymond Jordan is essential for USC to avoid back-to-back losses.
Being able to adjust, however, in the face of adversity is the ultimate sign of a good team. This specific aspect of the game will say a lot about USC moving forward.
