There have been many aspects that the USC fan base has wanted to see differently in Troy. One of the main things is the desire to see the Trojan defense play with a certain level of ferociousness. Think back to some of the past great USC teams. The defense set the tone and made it difficult for the opposing offense to even get into the game.
Sometimes, it takes an outsider to introduce new principles that ultimately lead to the desired goal in question. This can be said of Kentucky transfer Keeshawn Silver. The former SEC defensive lineman is looking to create a strong impression as a Trojan.
As shared by USCFootball.com's Shotgun Spratling on X, Silver believes that the Trojan unit will be able to step up and show glimpses of some of the elements that have been seen in the past when USC was indeed at the top of the sport.
Needed mindset from USC players
The specific words that Silver used included "dominant," "physical," and "violent." Almost akin to a UFC press conference, it would not be too difficult at all to imagine a roar of approval from a crowd of USC fans if Silver were to utter the same phrase into a microphone in front of the Trojan faithful.
To have the defense looking bigger and saying these types of things should further exude confidence in a unit that has come under a lot of criticism in recent memory. There will, of course, be people, even among USC fans, who remain skeptical as to how good that side of the ball is. What needs to be taken into consideration, though, is the fact that coach D'Anton Lynn is only in his second year in Troy and has already shown the ability to take significant leaps as the defensive coordinator. With people like Silver looking to be a dominant force on the field, that trend should be expected to continue.
