There is a lot of offensive continuity at USC heading into 2025. A lot of attention is on the wide receiver room that features Ja'Kobi Lane and Makai Lemon, and deservedly so. This is the best overall receiving corps in the nation, next to that of the Ohio State Buckeyes, as fans enter into the upcoming season. There is even a chance that they will be able to further prove themselves and cement their imprint on college football.

Another key receiving option comes at tight end in Walker Lyons. About to begin his sophomore season, Lyons has already impressed early on and is someone that Trojan fans know what to expect from. Particularly late during the 2024 season, the tight end was able to gain valuable reps with Jayden Maiava in practice and during games.

Now with that chemistry continuing to develop between the two and with Lane and Lemon drawing a lot of the attention of the defense, Lyons could end up having one of the better years at the position from a pass-catching standpoint.

Welcomed sign from USC tight end

As shared by SI's Kendell Hollowell on X, Lyons believes that the pace and speed of play are no longer an issue for him. This is something that is a very real aspect for any newcomer to deal with. Along with the physicality and increased football IQ that are needed, the pace can leave some feeling like they are in a whirlwind. This becomes especially true after having usually spent high school dominating at that level.

According to Lyons, though, things are starting to slow down. This will only mean increased comfortability and the ability to make that many more plays for USC this upcoming season.
Hearing this from Lyons speaks to how valuable last year's experience was for the tight end and how he will now look to play that much better for the Trojans because of it.
