Ordinarily it would be difficult for anyone else to make an impression in the USC running back room that already has Waymond Jordan, Eli Sanders, and Bryan Jackson. Through two games, though, King Miller is already making a great case to see an increase in touches despite being RB4 on the Trojan depth chart.
Unfortunately for Jackson, he was forced to miss the action against the Eagles due to injury. Once the Trojans felt that they had a secure enough lead, Miller then made certain to take advantage of an opportunity that may not have otherwise presented itself to him.
On three carries, Miller went for 55 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. That is good for an average of 18.3 yards per attempt.
It is safe to say that the coaching staff is fairly pleased with the freshman who is gaining nearly two first downs every time that he touches the ball. An aspect that stands out, too, from Miller is the explosive nature with which he plays the position.
Coach Lincoln Riley has already mentioned how it feels as if Miller can break a long one on any attempt.
Desired presence among USC fans
For a facet of the offense that Trojan fans tend to want to see more of anyway, the support for Miller to have more carries each game is only going to increase. Already, Miller has ingratiated himself among a fan base that is eager to see the Trojans pound the rock.
There are certainly a lot of mouths to feed in Troy. That is, of course, an aspect that the program is used to. Still, depending on how the rest of the year shapes up, USC could foreseeably be in a battle to prevent Miller from leaving for a program that makes an empty promise of guaranteed more playing time.
