Ratings and evaluations across the entirety of the football landscape can be difficult to judge. There are many factors that should play into it that are not adequately accounted for. In the case of USC commit Jonas Williams, the Elite 11 gave the quarterback a chance to show where he is at his current stage of development.
Among the claims of his not being good or not being on par with some of the best of his class in the nation, Williams did a good job of muting that noise this week. The Elite 11 listed him on the final 'Elite 11' list of players who had the best overall performances through the entirety of the showcase.
Before anyone points out his being listed last on there, the post mentions the players in question are in alphabetical order. Being a quarterback with a last name of Williams at USC comes with a lot of advantages. In this one specific instance, it simply means being at the bottom of those being highlighted for their skill set.
Without question, through the Elite 11, Williams had an excellent showing of himself. Being able to watch him participate in the same drills and workouts as everyone else gave the Trojan community an early glimpse of what to expect. It is safe to say that the raw skill set and current control of the position make it an exciting option to think about down the road.
Future QB room looking bright at USC
Right now, all one is looking for is the potential. Of course, things change when the pads get put on and the ball snaps during a Division I football game. Being able to evaluate players in the 2026 class under those conditions is not an option.
Instead, watching how composed and skilled Williams was during a live event that saw all participants being asked to do the same things gave a brief insight as to why coach Lincoln Riley will one day build the offense around him at USC when the time comes.
