There aren't too many places that are going to be able to withstand the changes in college sports without needing to pivot to one degree or another. Some may try to cling to the past way of doing things more than others; for the most part, there are massive, wholesale changes that have been a part of what the NCAA will look like. It will be difficult to keep too much the same in that regard.
Fortunately for USC and how they are going about things, many of the differences actually allow the Trojans to be in an area of strength moving forward. When thinking about revenue sharing and providing opportunities for student-athletes, being in Los Angeles and under the Cardinal and Gold emblem gives much more for players to consider compared to other places in the country.
Even with this aspect of schools being able to directly pay the student-athletes, many of the time-proven aspects that have resulted in winning and high levels of success will continue to matter and be the difference.
Yes, there is a new era in terms of what athletes can expect in terms of what they are compensated for. Staying driven, focused, and eliminating distractions are all going to remain critical elements to any team that is looking to pursue a title.
When looking throughout this coach Lincoln Riley staff, there are so many talented people in L.A. right now who know how to balance some of the differences from over the years with also knowing what's needed to get the job done.
Evidence from recruiting points to positive USC outlook
Most who are in a position to be considered for USC or other top schools want to be coached hard and want to be in a position to share as much team success as possible. Individually, their goal will be on making it to the next level. It is what this current Trojans staff is putting together and how they are setting up the future that has allowed the program to be a highly sought-after destination for the top target recruits and why so many have committed at the rate that they have.
It can be a hard aspect to balance and attempt to juggle. This USC staff has arguably the best balance of the old school and the new in the country.
