This upcoming season's USC basketball frontcourt will likely feature Gabe Dynes and Jacob Cofie at the five. Coach Eric Musselman has done an excellent job of retooling this roster through the portal after having players leave for various reasons from the program.
The transfer forward from Virginia, Cofie, is coming off his freshman year. He started in half of the games for the Cavaliers and will look to make a difference as a transfer student in the Big Ten. Approximately two weeks ago, the news was released that the state of Washington native would be returning to the West Coast. The team's media page made a post, in a way announcing that his becoming a Trojan is now 'officially official,' as is often seen in the media in today's era of journalism.
At 6'10", he may be slightly shorter than some BIG center counterparts, but he has the tool set to go up against opposing bigs in the nation. Cofie is comfortable stepping outside and shooting the three. Early in his college career, players are already honoring it enough that it's opened lanes to the basket for him.
Strengths of new USC basketball F/C
Off the dribble, he does a good job of either finding the open person or getting a quality look for himself. His handles are good enough as well, so he can take on the opposing frontcourt players and score off an iso-set as needed. This, along with his hustle on the boards and defensively, makes him an ideal person for coach Musselman to be able to turn to.
In the second year in the Big Ten, the USC basketball team wants to be able to compete in this area of the floor, on both ends. The additions of Cofie and Dynes provide the Trojans with two excellent options at center for the upcoming season.
